President Khatami On The Oncome of His Visit to Khuzestan

TEHRAN At the end of his four-day visit to Khuzestan province, President khatami, in a press conference, late Friday in Ahwaz, described the outcome of his stay in this province as positive and satisfactory. Referring to his meetings with the officials in Ahwaz and the near cities, President Khatami was informed of Khuzestan's issues of concern. Meanwhile, the President reiterated that immense positive actions have taken place in this province, making it into an industrial pole.
Referring to a vast water source of this province, he mentioned that although 1,600,000 acres are worth of cultivation in this province, 700,000 acres still remains barren. He called for the further development in all fields throughout this province, specially agriculture, based on the modern methods. Stressing on the importance of this province, he stated that the prerequisite for the national economic burgeoning and the elevation of the country is, in fact, further attention to the Khuzestan issues of concern.
The efforts should be centralized toward further use of the labor force for the benefit of the country, he added. Lauding the construction of Karoon3 Dam, he recalled it as synonymous to flourishing of economy and the enhancement of electricity production. Renaming some of the main project in Khuzestan province, he mentioned the construction of the cement factory with the capacity of 3,000 tons in Ramhormoz, the project for the irrigation and drainage of Ramin land in Ahwaz and the sugar cane project.
On the implementation of the sugar cane project and its related industries in Khuzestan, President khatami said that a good job has been done in the inauguration of two water pumping stations, however there remains financial and executive problems, which I will pursue staunchly. Referring to the problem on the drinkable water of Ahwazi citizens, President Khatami pinpointed that the problem in the provision of the drinkable water as well as the issue of waste water will be solved.
In Khoramshahr, he remarked, a borderline market will be opened, and the state of the customs office and the shipping sources will be reformed and improved. In Abadan, President stated, loans would be lent to the guilds and in the war-torn areas, the reconstruction will continue.
